HPD and Special Olympics

Officer Tracie Mathews – Segura assigned to the South Central Patrol Station was selected to be the Texas law enforcement representative in Seattle, Washington for the 2018 USA Special Olympics Games. Officer Mathews – Segura was also a Final Leg Torch Runner for the Law Enforcement Torch Run. HPD Captain Kristine Anthony, commander over the Training Division, was also present to cheer on our Texas athletes.

The Special Olympics USA Games were held at Husky Stadium.

From Officer Mathews – Segura: “Several years ago I found myself disappointed in myself, for not making the difference I had sought out to do when I joined Law Enforcement, I felt like I had failed. Then entered Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. I have met so many extraordinary men and women who we see compete and call themselves Special Olympic Athletes, and who I am blessed to call my friends.”

Congratulations to all of the Special Olympics Athletes who represented Texas in Seattle.
